Movie deal for former Hawaii resident

The "Blood of Eden" book series from bestselling author and former Hawaii resident Julie Kagawa has been optioned by Palomar Pictures, an independent film production company.

"The Immortal Rules," the first book in the series, will be published by Harlequin TEEN on Tuesday.

"Immortal Rules" is set in a future in which the human population has been decimated by a virus and serves as a slave-class and food source to a society of vampires. The "great story" has an "electrifying heroine," said Palomar principal Joni Sighvatsson.

Born in California, Kagawa moved to Hawaii at age nine. She now lives in Kentucky.
