Documentary explores Palama Settlement’s impact
"Voices of Palama Settlement," a documentary that commemorates the history of the social service agency, will air at 6 p.m. today on KFVE.
The hourlong documentary, produced by June Crabtree Productions and Lewis Communications, includes interviews with former Hawaii Govs. George Ariyoshi and Ben Cayetano, both of whom participated in settlement programs as children. Local celebrities, musicians and athletes are also featured as they reminisce about the settlement and how its activities touched them.
For more than 100 years, the nonprofit settlement has offered educational, recreational, athletic, social, health and "community building" activities for residents in the Kalihi and Palama neighborhoods.
