» Brigham Young sophomore Justin Keiley (Baldwin ’10) finished in a tie for 28th place at 5 over at the ASU Thunderbird Invitational that ended on Saturday.
» San Diego senior Alex Ching (Punahou ’08) closed with a 2-under 68 to finish in a tie for 14th place at 3 under at the Wyoming Cowboy Classic that ended on Tuesday. Santa Clara freshman Brett Komoto (Punahou ’11) shot his best round of the tournament, closing with a 1-over 71 to finish in a tie for 92nd and 11 over.

» Pepperdine freshman Alina Ching (Punahou ’11) was named the West Coast Conference player of the month for the second time last Thursday. Ching had two second-place finishes in three events in March and helped the Waves win the Bruin Wave Invitational, beating No. 1 UCLA. She averaged 74.13 strokes in eight rounds, and was under par twice, including a 3-under 69 in the first round of the Spring Break Classic. Ching has moved up to No. 71 in the Golfstat ratings and is ranked No. 73 by Golfweek/Sagarin.
Shoji earns national volleyball honor
Stanford senior libero Erik Shoji (Punahou ’08) was named the Sports Imports/AVCA Men’s Division I-II national player of the week Tuesday, just a day after earning Mountain Pacific Sports Federation Molten player of the week honors.
Shoji, a three-time first team All-American, tied the second-highest total in school history for a three-set match in the rally-scoring era, recording 17 digs in a win over Long Beach State. Shoji has five matches of at least 15 digs this season. Nobody else in the country has more than three.

» Portland State junior Britney Yada (Waiakea ’09) tied for the second lowest score on Tuesday, shooting a 2-under 70 to move from a tie for 52nd place to a tie for fifth at 3-over 147 after two rounds of the Cowgirl Invitational that ends today. Boise State junior Hayley Young (Mid-Pacific ’09) followed up an opening-round 73 with a 4-over 76 to sit in a tie for 15th place at 5 over. » Louisiana State freshman Randi Lau (Thompson Academy ’11) earned a 9.8 on the vault and a 9.375 on the bars to help the Tigers finish second in the NCAA Seattle Regional on Saturday to advance to the NCAA championships. UC Davis freshman Tiana Montell (St. Joseph ’11) finished the all-around with a score of 38.150 for 17th place. Arizona senior Rebecca Cardenas (Hawaiian Mission ’08) earned an 8.975 on the bars and a 9.850 on the floor for the Wildcats, who finished fourth.
» Arizona State senior Kahoku Palafox (Maryknoll ’08) earned a 9.775 on bars and a 9.675 on beam at the NCAA Salt Lake City Regional on Saturday. The Sun Devils failed to qualify for the NCAA championships, but finished fourth for their highest regional finish since 2006.
» Maryland senior Becca Pang (Punahou ’08) earned a 9.525 on the beam at the NCAA Fayetteville Regional on Saturday to help the Terrapins finish fifth.

» Pacific (Ore.) senior Nicole Smith (Kamehameha-Maui ’08) finished seventh in the heptathlon with a career-best 3,673 points at the Northwest Conference Multi-Event Championships that ended Tuesday. Smith tied for fifth in the long jump, placed second in the javelin and closed with a seventh-place finish in the 800 meters Tuesday. On Monday, she set personal bests in the high jump and shot put.
