Speaker to address Sjogren’s syndrome
About 4 million Americans, including tennis star Venus Williams, suffer from Sjogren’s syndrome. The chronic autoimmune disease, most common in women, causes white blood cells to attack the body’s moisture-producing glands.
Symptoms include dry eyes and mouth. The disorder can also cause dysfunction of the kidneys, gastrointestinal system, blood vessels, lungs, pancreas and central nervous system.
A Sjogren’s syndrome support group meeting, with guest speaker Dr. Chadron Araki, D.D.S., will be held from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. April 19 in the Queen’s Conference Center at the Queen’s Medical Center. Friends and family members are welcome to attend. Parking is available at the Queen’s POB I garage for $5.
