Diver dies following incident off Makaha
A 28-year-old man died Thursday night following a diving incident off Maunalahilahi Beach Park in Makaha.
Police said the man was diving in 15-foot-deep water about 30 to 45 feet offshore at about 10:40 p.m. when he began struggling and called out for help to his dive partner, a 46-year-old man.
By the time other people got to the man, he was floating on his back without a mask and unresponsive. The man was pulled to shore, police said.
Honolulu Fire Capt. Terry Seelig said firefighters found people performing CPR on the man, who was in cardiac arrest. Paramedics took the man to Waianae Coast Comprehensive Health Center, where he died at 11:15 p.m.

A man accused of threatening and later strangling a woman at a Waimanalo home was arrested by police Friday morning.
Police said the man, 21, got into an argument with the victim, 20, about 5 a.m. Friday and began choking her. The woman told police that the man had threatened her with a dangerous instrument on Thursday, police said.
The suspect was arrested on suspicion of abuse of a household member and first-degree terroristic threatening.
Suspect sought in sex assault attempt
Police were looking for a male suspect following a report of an attempted kidnapping and sexual assault of a woman Thursday night in Aiea.
The woman, 21, reported she was walking home about 11 p.m. Thursday when she was confronted by a man who tried to sexually assault her. When she fought back, the man ran away, police said. The identity of the assailant, whom the woman described as being in his 20s, is unknown.
Student accuses teacher of threatening her
Police said they were investigating a report by a 12-year-old Nanakuli girl that her teacher threatened her Thursday.
The threat allegedly was made at 1 p.m. Police did not release the name of the school nor the nature of the threat.
No arrests have been made.

Motorist, 28, dies in crash on Hawaii isle
A man was killed early Friday morning when his pickup truck hit a vehicle on Volcano Road in Mountain View.
Hawaii County firefighters said they were called to the scene at about 1:25 a.m. and found a police officer using chest compressions to try to revive a man who was pinned in the truck
The accident happened on Volcano Road, or Route 11, near Kulani Road at the 13.5-mile marker.
Firefighters removed the man from the truck. The man, who had no signs of life, was taken to Hilo Hospital, where he was pronounced dead. Hawaii News Now reported that he was 28.
The man was believed to be the driver and lone occupant of the vehicle, which was found in the middle of the road with significant front-end damage, officials said.
The second vehicle involved in the accident was found down the highway, said firefighters and Pahoa police. No other injuries were reported. Police closed the road during their investigation, and reopened the road at 4:53 a.m.
Search goes on for teen swept from Puna bay
Hawaii County fire rescue personnel will continue searching today for a missing 17-year-old boy who was swept out to sea Friday in Puna.
The boy was swimming with two friends at Shipman Estates Beach when he was swept out of the bay due to the strong currents about 1:30 p.m. Friday, a fire news release said.
Fire personnel searched the shoreline. A fire helicopter made an aerial search while a rescue boat and three divers made three dives. The search was suspended when visibility was poor late in the afternoon on Friday.
