Diver apparently drowns off a Makaha beach
A 28-year-old man died Thursday night following a diving incident off Maunalahilahi Beach Park in Makaha.
Police said the man was diving in 15-foot deep water about 30 to 45 feet offshore about 10:40 p.m. when he began struggling and called out for help to his dive partner, a 46-year-old man.
By the time bystanders got to the man, he was floating on his back without a mask and unresponsive. Bystanders pulled the man to shore. The Fire Department responded to a call of a drowning, and paramedics responded to a call of cardiac arrest, police said.
Paramedics took the man to Waianae Coast Comprehensive Health Center, where he died at 11:15 p.m., police said.
