Former San Jose State point guard Keith Shamburger is expected to transfer to play at Hawaii, sources confirmed on Friday.

The move will likely officially happen within the next two weeks, during the spring signing period. Shamburger must sit out the 2012-13 season as a Division I transfer, then will have two years of eligibility remaining.

The 5-foot-11, 170-pound Shamburger was recruited by UH coach Gib Arnold in 2010. He ultimately chose SJSU over UH after taking campus visits to both.

Shamburger, out of Serra High in Southern California, averaged 13.1 points and 5.2 assists per game as Spartans sophomore, after putting up 12.4 ppg and 2.4 apg as a true freshman. He went 1-4 against UH in two years, with the lone win an upset of the Rainbow Warriors in the first round of the WAC tournament in 2011.

The Spartans went 9-22 in 2011-12, including 1-13 in WAC play. However, his assist average was second in the league only to UH’s Miah Ostrowski.
