Visitor critically injured when knocked down by wave on Maui
A Minnesota visitor was taken to the hospital in critical condition after a wave knocked her down at a popular tourist attraction on West Maui, a Maui Fire Department spokesman said.
The woman, a registered nurse from Prior Lake, Minn., sustained critical injuries to her hip and upper leg in the 12:43 p.m. incident at Olivine Pools, a Maui Fire Department spokesman said.
Maui firefighters used a helicopter to pick the woman up from the site, an area where sea water collects into pools in a lava shelf along the coast, and took her to a landing zone where she was transferred to paramedics.
