Japanese brush painting and historic photographs of Kalaupapa will be on display in April.

Honolulu Hale will feature Sumie, a style of Japanese brush painting, from April 3 to 12. Sumie depicts subjects with the fewest possible brush strokes and is recognized for its graceful and contemplative style.

At Kapolei Hale, a photographic history of Kalaupapa will be on display from April 10 to 27. Acclaimed photographer Wayne Levin’s work is included among the historic photographs of the Hansen’s Disease settlement. 

Henry Law, the first national park superintendent of Kalaupapa and Valerie Monson of Ka Ohana O Kalaupapa will also show work. Monson’s organization is presenting the exhibit.

The exhibits are free and open to the public from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.
