Lee-Croson team wins sand volleyball gold
Hawaii’s Ashley Lee and Jane Croson defeated Florida State’s Brittany Tiegs and Aurora Newgard 21-16, 19-21, 15-11 to win the gold medal Sunday at the North Florida Sand Volleyball Invitational in Jacksonville, Fla.
The Rainbow Wahine finished second to Florida State for the team title. Lee and Croson made the all-tournament team, as did the UH pair of Larissa Nordyke and Mita Uiato.
Cole, Williams headline Quarterback Club
Maureen Cole and Richard Williams are the featured speakers at today’s Honolulu Quarterback Club luncheon.
Cole is in her second year as the University of Hawaii’s women’s water polo head coach, while Williams has 43 years of wrestling head-coaching experience.
Lunch begins at 11:30 a.m. at the Maple Garden restaurant, with the program set for noon. The cost is $15.
UHH sweeps Academy of Art in baseball
Hawaii-Hilo swept Academy of Art in a baseball doubleheader Sunday, 3-1 and 4-3.
The Vulcans improved to 9-27 overall and 6-21 in the PacWest. The Urban Knights dropped to 2-28 and 2-21.
Chaminade claims bronze championship
Anuhea Yamaguchi had two hits as Chaminade defeated Montana State Billings 2-1 in the Tournament of Champions bronze title game on Sunday in Turlock, Calif.
Earlier, the Silverswords (12-18) defeated Notre Dame de Namur 6-4 and Western Washington 5-4.
Hawaii-Hilo defeats NDNU in softball
Emily Greene had a home run and drove in four runs as Hawaii-Hilo defeated Notre Dame de Namur 6-2 in softball on Sunday in Turlock, Calif.
Later, in a Tournament of Champions game, Chico State beat the Vulcans 7-0 to drop UHH (16-15) to 1-5 in the tourney.
