Air Pacific canceled flights to Honolulu, Auckland and Melbourne because of “poor weather conditions” and flooding around the airport .

Hundreds of tourists are stranded in Fiji after floods displaced almost 7,000 people and inundated the main road to the airport, the Australian Broadcasting Corp. reported.

Fiji’s national carrier, Air Pacific, canceled all flights into the country because passengers weren’t able to reach their hotels, ABC reported on its website. The government has declared a state of natural disaster as more heavy rain is forecast, it said.

Rains and thunderstorms may continue into next week, according to a statement on the Fiji Meteorological Service website. Two people were killed in the floods, Fijilive reported yesterday, citing police.

Fiji is a 332-island archipelago located in the South Pacific Ocean, 2,013 miles northeast of Australia. The cyclone season in the South Pacific region runs from November to April and storms sometimes cause flooding and landslides.
