Four runs has been good enough for Jarrett Arakawa all season.
Friday night was no different, as the sophomore left-hander held UC Davis scoreless over eight innings as Hawaii snapped a five-game losing streak with a 4-0 victory.
Zack Swasey went 3-for-4 with a double and two RBIs, helping Hawaii score for the first time in Arakawa’s past three starts.
"It just feels good to break this losing streak," said Arakawa, who threw 104 pitches. "We scratched a couple (of runs) across and our pitching and defense played well."
The Rainbows (15-12) evened the series at a game apiece against the Aggies (11-11) in front of a Les Murakami Stadium crowd of 2,144.

KEY: Starter Jarrett Arakawa throws eight innings of shutout ball for UH. NEXT: UH vs. UC Davis, 6:05 p.m. today at Les Murakami Stadium. |
Arakawa, who has yet to give up more than two earned runs in any of his seven starts, didn’t allow a run for the first time all year.
He gave up five hits and no walks with five strikeouts, lowering his ERA to a Western Athletic Conference-best 1.32.
"I just tip my hat to Jarrett. It was a great outing for him," Hawaii coach Mike Trapasso said. "Jarrett was Jarrett and we made the plays behind him."
Eric Johnson had two of the Aggies’ six hits and was the only baserunner to reach third.
UC Davis was 1-for-11 with men on base after Brent Harrison stranded a runner on first to end the ninth.
Hawaii got the leadoff runner aboard three times in the first four innings before finally taking advantage.
Senior Collin Bennett, who dropped to fifth in the lineup for just the third time this season, smoked a 3-2 offering from Anthony Kupbens deep to center for an RBI triple to score Pi’ikea Kitamura.
"Whenever I have people on base I kind of get a little fire in my eyes," Bennett said. "There’s a little more incentive at the plate when you have guys on base."
Swasey followed with a double to right on the very next pitch, scoring Bennett for a 2-0 lead.
Swasey had three hits in a game for the second time this year, and Breland Almadova went 2-for-4 and scored a run.
"The thing that was good today is that Breland hit a couple of balls hard," Trapasso said. "Breland and Zack are two guys that hit .300 for us last year and are trying to find their swings this year, and it means a lot to us to get those guys going."
Designated hitter AJ Bayus, starting for only the third time all year, ended Kupbens’ day with an RBI double in the eighth to score Almadova.
Kupbens (2-3) allowed four runs on nine hits in 71/3 innings with two walks and five strikeouts.
Ben Burke pitched in relief of Kupbens and allowed a fly ball to Swasey that fell between Kevin Barker and Ryan Allgrove in shallow right, allowing pinch runner Conner George to score.
Freshman Scott Squier (3-1, 2.52 ERA) will try to bounce back from the shortest outing of his career as the series continues tonight at 6:05.
