UH diver fails to move on at NCAAs
University of Hawaii diver Douglas Cohen failed to advance out of the quarterfinal round Thursday in the 1-meter competition at the NCAA Men’s Swimming and Diving Championships in Federal Way, Wash.
Cohen finished 30th overall in the preliminary round with a score of 255.05. Each diver was scored on six dives. Drew Livingston (Texas) won the event with a finals score of 448.10.
Grand Canyon sweeps Hilo in baseball
Grand Canyon (14-15, 11-11) swept the University of Hawaii-Hilo baseball team 12-3 and 18-2 Friday in Pacific West Conference games played in Phoenix.
Jeremy Kaaukai and Greg Cleary got all the hits for the Vulcans (5-22, 2-16) in the second game, both going 2-for-3.
Dixie State sweeps HPU in softball
Dixie State College swept the Hawaii Pacific softball team in mercy-rule-shortened games 17-9 and 11-0 Friday at St. George, Utah.
The Sea Warriors (17-7, 11-3 Pacific West Conference), who were opening a 16-game road trip, led 6-0 in the second inning of the first game, but the Red Storm (12-7, 5-5) scored eight runs over the next two innings to pull away. The teams will play another doubleheader today.
