Pistol used in Kaneohe bus stop robbery
A 22-year-old Kaneohe man was arrested on suspicion of robbing another man after flashing a handgun at him at a Kaneohe bus stop Wednesday night, police said.
Police said the suspect approached the victim and two witnesses at a Kawa Street bus stop at about 9 p.m. Wednesday. The man displayed a firearm in his waistband and ordered the victim to give up his money, police said. The alleged robber then fled on foot, police said.
The man was found at his Kahuhipa Street home at about 3 a.m. Thursday and arrested on suspicion of first-degree robbery and seven warrants, police said.
Officer uses pepper spray to counter shove
A police officer trying to break up a fight used pepper spray to subdue a combatant late Thursday morning.
The male officer warned one man several times not to attack another man outside 475 Atkinson Drive, police said. Instead, the man, 57, shoved the officer in the chest. He was trying to repeat the action when the officer sprayed him.
The suspect was arrested for harassment of a police officer and terroristic threatening. No one was injured.
Boy admits to cutting down banyan tree
A Kahuku High School senior confessed to cutting down a 50-year-old banyan tree on campus with several other seniors in a prank early Monday, officials said.
Lea Albert, Department of Education Windward Oahu District administrator, said the community is upset at the "extremely thoughtless" action. Because of privacy laws she is unable to discuss actions taken against the male students.
Police said the 17-year-old who confessed is facing a criminal property damage charge.
