Straight shots of Corzo Silver tequila were the drink of choice as Jose Santamaria, center, hosted a private pre-show reception March 10 in the Lobby Bar at the Modern Honolulu. "Hawaii Five-0" cast member Brian Yang (known to fans as forensic scientist Charlie Fong), left, Kristen Chen, Wanda Watumull and Matt Bendik joined Santamaria at the Lobby Bar before he took the party upstairs to the Addiction nightclub for a fashion show that ended with the wall-to-wall crowd mingling with his half-dressed models.

"SPRING" AWAKENS AT MVT | 2. MVT cast member Elise Levin (Wendla), left, celebrated with Shari Lynn at the opening-night reception for Manoa Valley Theatre's hit production of "Spring Awakening" March 8. Levin first learned about the controversial Tony Award-winning musical when she was a student of Lynn's at La Pietra Hawaii School for Girls and credits her former teacher with inspiring her to audition at MVT.

5. Shane Curtis and his radio-controlled lighter-than-air craft were the hit of the party. Curtis started with a conventional zeppelin kit and radically redesigned it to look as similar as possible to the balloon on the Seeker chardonnay bottle. The tricky part, he said, was balancing the weight of the finished craft so it had enough lift to fly yet still possess a slight negative buoyancy so it would slowly sink to the ground if the batteries failed.
