Advocate for immigrants will speak at fundraiser, First Unitarian service
The Rev. Peter Morales, president of the Unitarian Universalist Association, will be the keynote speaker on "Standing on the Side of Love with Immigrant Families" at a 6 p.m. fundraiser March 24.
The dinner will be at First Unitarian Church of Honolulu, 2500 Pali Highway in Nuuanu, and is co-sponsored by Faith Action for Community Equity. Tickets for the Mexican dinner are on sale for $50. Email office@unitariansofhi.org or call 595-4047.
Morales is the first person of Hispanic ancestry to be president of the association. Jailed and convicted in Arizona for his role in a 2010 protest against unjust, illegal immigrant sweeps, he has gained national attention for his strong stance against anti-immigration legislation, racial profiling and discrimination, a news release said.
At First Unitarian’s 10:15 a.m. service March 25, Morales will speak about "Religious Hospitality" as a spiritual discipline.
