‘Descendants’ writer schedules readings
Hawaii author Kaui Hart Hemmings, whose novel "The Descendants" became an Oscar-winning movie, will read from her book today at Waikiki Beach Marriott Resort & Spa.
The free hourlong readings will be held at 10:30 a.m. and 3:30 p.m.
This is the first in a series of hotel events featuring guest artists who will talk about their work. The hotel is at 2552 Kalakaua Ave.
"The Descendants" won an Oscar this year for best adapted screenplay. The film starred George Clooney as the head of a kamaaina family who discovers his comatose wife was having an affair.
Race to raise funds will benefit hospice
Join Hospice Hawaii’s Hot Pursuit fundraiser, an "Amazing Race"-style competition in which participants solve puzzles that offer clues to the next location in the contest.
The April 14 event begins with registration at 8:45 a.m. at Ward Centers and the race at 9:45 a.m.
Prizes will be awarded to top finishers. Participants must pledge to raise at least $250 and can register in teams of two to six. Proceeds support Hospice Hawaii’s mission to provide end-of-life care for patients.
