Body found off Kauai is that of California woman
A woman whose body was found off the Na Pali Coast this morning has been identified as Sansan Sheng, 58, of Sunnyvale, Calif., who was scheduled to attend a conference on Kauai this week.
A statement from Kauai County said she was traveling alone.
After a second day of searching, the Kauai Fire Department recovered a body after a tour boat spotted it in waters roughly four miles west of Hanakapiai.
The department’s rescue helicopter, Air 1, retrieved the body and brought it to Princeville airport at about 9 a.m.
The woman’s family has been notified and an autopsy is scheduled to be performed early this week, the county said.
On Saturday afternoon, witnesses saw a hiker getting swept into the ocean near the mouth of Hanakapiai Stream. The initial report said the hiker was a man, but Kauai officials said the description was consistent aside from gender.
