Strong and gusty tradewinds are predicted to blow over most of the state again today as the National Weather service extended a wind advisory for Oahu, Kauai, Niihau, Molokai, Lanai, Kahoolawe and parts of Maui and Hawaii island until 6 p.m. today.

The tradewinds of up to 30 mph, gusting to 50 mph, created problems on land and sea Sunday.

Hawaiian Electric Co. crews worked to restore power to 700 customers in Pearl City and 600 customers in Kalihi Sunday morning. Other outages, apparently due to the wind, were reported started at 4:30 a.m., a Hawaiian Electric Co. spokeswoman said.

The Pearl City outage was caused by a downed pole that closed Hoolaulea Street in Pearl City until the pole could be stabalized.

Also  Sunday morning, a tree fell on Tantalus Drive at the 2 mile marker above Makiki Heights Drive, closing the road at about 7 a.m. until road crews could  remove it.

The strong winds could blow remnants of moisture from last week’s storm over the leeward areas, forecasters said. Isolated showers, especially in windward and mauka areas, are in the forecast, but no thunderstorms are predicted.

The winds are also generating surf on east shores, where a high surf advisory is in effect for Kauai, Oahu, Molokai and Maui and Hawaii island until 6 p.m. Rough and choppy surf of 6 to 10 feet is expected. The surf will create dangerous rip currents, forecasters said.

The surf and winds are also creating hazardous conditions for boaters. A small craft advisory is in effect for most Hawaiian waters.
