Suspect arrested in attack on Prada worker
Police arrested a 21-year-old man after an alleged attack on a Prada store employee in Waikiki on Saturday morning.
Police said the suspect entered the luxury retail store at 2174 Kalakaua Ave. and attacked a 49-year-old male employee for no apparent reason, with an unidentified dangerous instrument, at about 2:56 a.m.
Security officers and the victim’s co-workers intervened and disarmed the assailant, police said. The suspect fled the scene but officers, flagged down by store employees, found the suspect nearby and arrested him on suspicion of second-degree assault, police said.
The victim had minor injuries and was treated at the scene, police said.
The suspect lives at Marine Corps Base Hawaii at Kaneohe Bay, but police would not confirm whether he is a Marine.
The case is not believed to be related to a stabbing that occurred about 90 minutes later at a parking lot near Kuhio Avenue and Lewers Street. In that case, paramedics took a 25-year-old man to the hospital in serious condition about 4:30 a.m., a spokesman for the city Department of Emergency Services said. No other information was available.
