Earthquake strikes in Vanuatu; no tsunami threat reported
The Pacific Tsunami Warning Center has confirmed that there is no tsunami threat to Hawaii as a result of an earthquake in the Vanuatu Islands Thursday night.
The magnitude 6.7 quake occurred at 9:10 p.m Hawaii time. It was centered about 38 miles northeast of Isangel, Vanuatu and 129 miles southeast of Port-Villa, Vanuatu’s capital city, at a depth of 19 miles.
The Pacific Tsunami Warning Center said a local tsunami may have been generated in the Vanuatu Islands. But there were no immediate reports of damage or injuries.
