People will be able to reserve a campsite at an Oahu beach park and other county parks beginning Friday at https://camping.honolulu.gov, the city announced.
Camping permits will no longer be issued at satellite city halls beginning Friday. People may still get camping permits in person at the Fasi Municipal Building, 650 S. King St.
The reservation system applies to the following county parks: Bellows, Hauula, Hoomaluhia, Kaiaka Bay, Keaau, Kokololio, Kalaeloa, Kualoa, Lualualei, Maili, Nanakuli, Swanzy, Waimanalo Bay and Waimanalo.
Online reservations will open at 2 p.m. Friday. Online users will need to establish an account with the city. The camping website has been available since Tuesday for that purpose. Go to https://camping.honolulu.gov, click on "Sign In" and follow instructions to set up an account.
People may apply online for family campsites, which allow up to 10 people per site. Camping permits are issued up to two weeks in advance. Camping for larger groups will continue to be managed by the parks that have group campsites.
"The online system offers flexibility, increases efficiency and reduces the need to stand in line for camping permits," city Parks Director Gary Cabato said in a news release. "We continue to look at ways to further improve access and efficiency."
