Snow graces Hawaii island summits, more on the way
Hawaii island summits received a dusting of snow today, and the forecast for the next few days holds out the possibility of more snow showers.
A winter weather advisory for Hawaii island summits will remain in effect until 6 p.m. today. The summits of Mauna Loa and Mauna Kea received snow, thanks to high moisture and below freezing temperatures.
The summit roadways are closed due to ice and snow on the roads.
A winter weather advisory means there could be up to 2 inches of snow, with snow showers and ice, according to the National Weather Service.
Forecasters said visibility could fall below one mile in some places.
