Man critically injured in mo-ped crash
A 26-year-old man suffered critical head and internal injuries Sunday after the mo-ped he was driving struck a parked car near Kapiolani Park.
The man was on the mo-ped heading south on Paki Avenue when he became distracted and veered off the road, striking a parked car at 6:24 p.m. Sunday. The crash, about 835 feet east of Noela Street, occurred in a dimly lit area with light rain, and speed might have been a factor, police said.
The man, who was not wearing a helmet, was taken to the Queen’s Medical Center, police said.
Lifeguards rescue Kona body surfer
Hawaii County lifeguards rescued a man who may have suffered a spinal injury while body surfing at Laaloa Beach Park on Sunday afternoon.
Lifeguards pulled the man from the water about 12:45 p.m. and performed cardiopulmonary resuscitation until paramedics arrived.
The man was taken to Kona Community Hospital. His condition was not known.
