Motorcyclist in Aiea crash is identified
A motorcyclist who died Friday from injuries suffered in a crash last week has been identified by medical examiners as Warren White Jr., 43, of Aiea.
Police said White was driving a blue 2001 Yamaha R-1 motorcycle that crashed into a black 2001 Volkswagen Golf Tuesday afternoon.
The car was trying to make a U-turn on Kaonohi Street into the path of the motorcycle about half a mile south of Iho Place at 5:32 p.m. The motorcycle slammed into the front quarter panel of the passenger side of the car, police said. The impact caused White to be ejected from his motorcycle.
He was taken to the Queen’s Medical Center in critical condition where he died about 11:30 a.m. Friday.
White was not wearing a helmet. Investigators believe speed may have been a factor in the crash. It was raining lightly when the crash occurred.
White’s death was the 15th on Oahu’s roads so far this year. There were nine at this date in 2011.
White was also the sixth motorcyclist killed in 2012. There were nine total in 2011.
Pedestrian hit by car was Waipahu woman
The woman who died after she was struck by a car walking across Waipahu Street Friday morning was identified by medical examiners as Guillerma Babilla, 73, of Waipahu.
Police said Babilla was not in a marked crosswalk when she was hit by a car, driven by a 47-year-old Waipahu woman, turning left from Waikele Road onto Waipahu Street near Waipahu Elementary School about 5:30 a.m. Friday.
Paramedics took Babilla to the Queen’s Medical Center where she died.
Babilla is the fourth pedestrian killed on Oahu roads so far this year. All four were over the age of 65.
