ESPN has notified the Western Athletic Conference that it might pick up the Nov. 12 Hawaii-Nevada football game and move it to a night contest.
The game is currently listed as a 1:05 p.m. Pacific kickoff (11:05 a.m. Hawaii time), but could be moved to 7:15 p.m. or 7:30 p.m. (5:15 p.m. or 5:30 p.m. Hawaii time) to suit the network’s needs, a conference spokesman said.
A decision could come as soon as Monday, the WAC said.
A staffer at the National Weather Service in Reno said average high temperatures for that date are approximately mid to high 50s at 1 p.m. and low-to-mid 40s after 7 p.m.
UH’s last night game at Mackay Stadium, an ESPN appearance in 2007, had temperatures that dropped into the 30s.
Under terms of its agreement with the WAC, ESPN may pick up a game up to 12 days before the scheduled kickoff. If the network picks up the game, it will be UH’s fourth scheduled appearance on ESPN this season.
The Warriors’ game Friday at San Jose State and their Dec. 3 meeting against Brigham Young also are scheduled for ESPN, as was the season opener against Colorado.
