Visiting Idaho built an 18-point halftime lead and withstood a Hawaii charge early in the second half to beat the Rainbow Warriors 82-63 in a men’s college basketball game Thursday.

A Stan Sheriff Center crowd of around 4,000 saw UH (15-14, 6-7 WAC) lose its fourth in a row, the first three coming on a just-completed road trip.

Idaho improved to 17-12 and 8-5 in the conference after dominating rebounding 46-27.

Deremy Geiger led the Vandals with 20 points. Stephen Madison added 17.

Zane Johnson paced Hawaii with 18 points, and passed Predrag Savovic as UH’s all-time career leader in 3-pointers made. Joston Thomas scored 16.

Idaho led 45-27 at halftime, with Connor Hill’s three 3-pointers for 9 points leading the way.

Djim Bandoumel and Madison contributed eight each before the break.

Thomas had nine before intermission to lead UH, which shot 33 percent from the floor in the first half.

Johnson’s trey with 15:33 left in the game cut Idaho’s lead to 53-43, but the Vandals regained control and won going away.
