A Manoa man out on bail while awaiting trial for a botched jewelry store robbery in April was arrested for allegedly stealing a car in the University area Tuesday.

Trey Akana-Pulido, 21, is now being held at the police cellblock on $750,000 bail after being charged with unauthorized control of a propelled vehicle, first-degree criminal property damage, second-degree criminal property damage and driving without a license.

Police arrested Akana-Pulido on South Beretania Street in front of Moiiliili Field Tuesday afternoon when a police officer tried to stop him for allegedly driving a stolen white Honda sedan. 

Police said Akana-Pulido initially tried to flee by reversing, hitting a vehicle behind him. He then allegedly drove forward and clipped the patrol car of the officer who tried to stop him.

Akana-Pulido was out on $150,000 bail awaiting trial for first-degree robbery, second-degree arson, carrying a firearm without a license and being a felon in possession of a prohibited firearm in the April 9 attempted robbery of the Zales Outlet store in Waikele. 

Police said he was one of two masked men who tried to steal merchandise from the jewelry store during store hours with two employees on duty. Akana-Pulido allegedly wielded a sawed-off shotgun during the robbery attempt, which was captured on video, and later burned the getaway car.

A jury trial is scheduled to begin Dec. 5.

Another suspect in the case, 28-year-old Mark Ahnee, was shot and killed in Aina Haina by police after he fired a shotgun at officers following a chase through Honolulu.
