An employee of a local contractor is accused of stealing copper pipes from his employer and taking them to a copper recycler in a company truck.
An Oahu grand jury returned an indictment Thursday charging Dean Enrico with theft of copper, a Class C felony punishable by up to five years in prison. His bail is $11,000.
Enrico took the pipes, which are 20 feet long and 8 inches in diameter, to Okuda Metal during March 11 to 21, said Kelli Lee, deputy city prosecutor.
Lee said the owner of Okuda Metal became suspicious when he noticed that Enrico delivered the pipes in a truck emblazoned with "Dorvin D. Leis Co. Inc.," which is the name of a mechanical contracting firm.
