Teacher faces extradition in rape of girl
An extradition hearing for a 26-year-old elementary school teacher accused of having sexual relations with a 13-year-old girl in American Samoa will be held today in Circuit Court.
Tone Pulou was arrested Wednesday night by the FBI at the McDonald’s restaurant at 4725 Bougainville Drive.
He is wanted in American Samoa for rape, first-degree sexual abuse and endangering the welfare of a child.
The warrant for Pulou’s arrest was issued in August 2010. The American Samoa attorney general has indicated that the territory will seek extradition.
According to an affidavit, Pulou was a schoolteacher who allegedly had sexual intercourse with a 13-year-old female student. The sexual relationship between teacher and student allegedly continued from September 2009 through February 2010 and resulted in her pregnancy, the affidavit said.
Pulou traveled to Australia after fleeing American Samoa in August 2010. He arrived on Oahu from Australia last week, and had been staying with friends in Waianae for the past few days.
