Capsized boat removed from Ala Wai channel

Private contractors have removed a 24-foot sailboat that capsized after running aground in the Ala Wai Boat Harbor Friday night.

The boat apparently ran into the reef around 7:15 p.m. Friday. Two women were pick up by a passing boat while the male captain remained aboard until Honolulu Fire Department rescue personnel arrived.

No injuries were reported.

The nearby Hilton Hawaiian Village delayed its usual Friday night fireworks display to allow an HFD helicopter to safely take part in the initial response to the emergency, according to HFD spokesman Capt. Rick Karasaki.
