Pacific Buddhist’s festival features taiko, other arts
Pacific Buddhist Academy students will present its sixth annual Taiko Festival, “Lessons of the Bamboo,” March 4 at 2 p.m. at the Pearl City Cultural Center.
Tickets are $15 for general admission, $12 for people 65 and older and $20 at the door. Buy tickets in advance at www.brownpapertickets.com or at the school office.
Students will perform taiko drum pieces that have taught them the virtues of strength, flexibility, endurance and resilience, an announcement said. The ancient art is an integral part of the school’s curriculum: Freshmen are required to study a year of taiko, and many choose to continue taiko studies for all four years.
The festival will also feature the comedy and piano artistry of Ron Miyashiro, a dance routine by Hongwanji Mission School students and other performances.
