Mo-ped rider injured after hitting truck
A 21-year-old woman suffered massive head injuries at about 1:30 p.m. Thursday when the mo-ped she was driving struck the side of a pickup truck at North School and Alaneo streets in Liliha.
Police said the woman, who was in critical condition, was taken to a hospital.
She was driving west on School Street when a truck driven by a 42-year-old man turned left on Alaneo Street in front of the mo-ped. The woman was not wearing a helmet, police said.
Van crash leaves 2 in critical condition
An infant and a woman were in critical condition after a passenger van they were riding in with five other people crashed on Mamalahoa Highway in Pahala on Hawaii island at about 5:25 p.m. Thursday.
Four of the other passengers were in serious condition, Hawaii County fire officials said. The injured were taken to Hilo Medical Center. All are Japanese nationals.
Dirt collapse caused worker’s fatal trauma
The Honolulu Medical Examiner’s Office said Wednesday that a 40-year-old construction worker who was trapped by a collapsing mound of dirt at a residential construction site in Waialae Iki on Tuesday died of injuries from the falling dirt.
Gilbert Macalma of Waipahu died of trauma to his chest and abdomen from injuries due to a falling pile of dirt, the office said. The manner of his death was an accident.
Officials ID man killed in fall from pickup
The 21-year-old Kaneohe man who died after falling out of the back of a pickup on Sunday in Kahaluu has been identified by the Honolulu Medical Examiner’s Office as Jason Arruda.
He died of head injuries sustained while falling out of a moving vehicle, the Medical Examiner’s Office said.
Police said a 23-year-old Kaneohe man fled the scene in a Nissan Frontier after Arruda fell out of the pickup.

Air rifle taken from suspect near highway
Hawaii County police arrested a 34-year-old Kalapana woman Wednesday after receiving a report that someone was pointing a rifle at people.
Officers responded to a call at about 5:30 p.m. that a woman was pointing a rifle at passers-by near the end of Highway 130. Officers arrested the suspect and recovered an air rifle.
Police initiated a terroristic threatening case and released the woman Wednesday night without charges.
