A 41-year-old Missouri woman admitted in a federal court in St. Louis today to stealing from more than 80 Hawaii residents in a mortgage rescue scam.

Marien Brown, known to her victims as Marien White, pleaded guilty to three court of mail fraud. She faces up to 20 years in prison for each count when a federal judge sentences her in December.

According to the indictment against her, Brown targeted Hawaii homeowners behind on their mortgage payments or facing imminent foreclosure and convinced them she could renegotiate a lower mortgage rate for them if they sent her money.

The U.S. Attorney in Missouri says Brown’s victims lost at least $265,000 and that Brown has agreed to pay that amount in restitution plus any additional losses.
