Hawaii community colleges to receive $25 million in federal grants
University of Hawaii’s community colleges will receive nearly $25 million for job training and workforce development.
The Hawaii award is among nearly $500 million in grants to community colleges nationwide announced Monday by the U.S. Department of Labor and the U.S. Department of Education. The money comes from the Trade Adjustment Assistance Community college and Career Training initiative.
Hawaii’s delegation in Washington said the grants allow Hawaii community colleges to partner with local businesses to create and continue workforce development programs. The programs are designed to create jobs in the agriculture, energy and healthcare industries.
