Officer’s car hits pedestrian, HPD says
A veteran Honolulu Police Department sergeant was arrested early Saturday after he allegedly struck a pedestrian with his car.
According to police, 57-year-old Andrew Tsukano was traveling west on South Beretania Street, about 500 feet east of Victoria Street, when his car struck a man crossing the roadway. The pedestrian was taken in serious condition to a hospital.
Tsukano refused to submit to a sobriety test and was arrested on suspicion of operating a vehicle under the influence of an intoxicant; refusing to submit to a breath, blood or urine test; and felony negligent injury. He was released pending investigation.
Tsukano was not on duty at the time, police said.
Makakilo apartment blaze doused
Honolulu firefighters extinguished an apartment fire Saturday night in Makakilo.
About 9:40 p.m., firefighters were summoned by a report of a fire at 92-987 Makakilo Drive.
Fire Capt. James Todd said damage was contained to the first floor of a two-story apartment in the Palehua Gardens complex.
17-year-old suffers broken bone in fight
A 17-year-old girl was arrested Friday after she punched another girl in Waipahu and broke a bone in her face, police said.
Police said the girl bumped into the other girl, who attends the same Waipahu high school and is also 17, and exchanged words before punching her in the face about 12:10 p.m.
The victim’s parents later took their daughter to the hospital where she was found to have facial bone fractures.
Police were notified and arrested the alleged attacker for investigation of assault at 6:15 p.m.
