Hawaii loaded the bases in the bottom of the 12th inning, but Oregon held on to beat the host Rainbows 3-2 in a college baseball game Saturday.

Aaron Payne scored from second on a stolen base and wild pitch in the top of the inning to give the Ducks the eventual winning run.

A sellout turnstile crowd of 3,415 at Les Murakami Stadium saw the teams even their records at 1-1. Hawaii won the season and series opening game on Friday.

Jimmie Sherfy struck out Kaeo Aliviado with the bases loaded to end the game. Aliviado appeared to be hit by a pitch during the at-bat, but umpire Joe Burelson ruled Aliviado did not try to avoid the pitch and called it a ball.

Hawaii left 16 runners on base.

UH put runners on first and second with one out in the ninth, but Sherfy struck out Max Duval and Swasey to send the game to extra innings.

Sherfy pitched 5 2/3 innings of relief to get the win. He struck out 13 and walked four and allowed two hits.

Patrick O’Rourke got the loss for Hawaii.

Collin Bennett drove in the first run with a single in the third, and came around on an error by third baseman Thomas Walker.

Oregon tied it at 2 with Brett Hambright’s 2-run double in the sixth. Arakawa then left the game after walking the next batter, Walker. David Longville relieved Arakawa and induced a double play to end the innning.
