Pedestrian hit in Waikiki crosswalk dies
Speed was a possible factor in a Thursday crash that killed a 68-year-old Honolulu man who was walking in a Waikiki crosswalk, police said.
The man died of multiple blunt force injures from the crash, the Honolulu Medical Examiner’s Office said. His identification has not been released.
Police said a 37-year-old Texas woman was driving a 2011 Jeep in the right lane of Kalakaua Avenue when she hit the man, who was in a crosswalk at Kealohilani Avenue at about 12:30 p.m.
The man was taken to the Queen’s Medical Center in serious condition but died that afternoon, police said.
Woman found asleep after break-in
A 46-year-old woman was arrested Thursday night after she broke into the Waikiki apartment of a man she apparently didn’t know and fell asleep, police said.
The man called police at about 10:15 p.m. after waking up to suspicious noises and finding the woman in his Kuamoo Street apartment, police said. No property was missing. Officers arrested the woman for investigation of unauthorized entry into a dwelling.
Person hospitalized after water rescue
A woman in her 50s was taken to a Honolulu hospital in critical condition after she was found floating face down in waters off Waikiki Thursday afternoon.
The woman was found about 20 yards offshore from the Hilton Hawaiian Village, said Honolulu fire Capt. Terry Seelig. City firefighters, lifeguards and paramedics treated her on the beach, he said. The victim was taken to the hospital shortly after the 3:06 p.m. call, a spokesman for the city Department of Emergency Services said.
