The Muslim Association of Hawaii will hold its third annual Islam Day festival today from 3 to 9 p.m. at the Japanese Cultural Center of Hawaii, 2454 S. Beretania St. in Moiliili.
This year’s event will be a celebration of peace and learning and of helping those in need. A $10 admission fee will be used to provide low-income public school children with new athletic shoes. People can also bring a new pair of children’s athletic shoes for donation in lieu of the fee. The festival is also collecting new or gently used books to benefit Hawaii public libraries.
Highlights include bounce houses and other children’s activities, art activities and food. Entertainment will be provided by Sewa Fare, performing percussion music from Guinea, and Australia’s Ahmad Abu Ghazaleh, a news release said.
