A female visitor from Japan was killed and her new husband was in critical condition after the motorcycle they were riding struck a guardrail just before 12:15 p.m. today near Crouching Lion in Kaaawa.
Police said the woman died after being transported to the Queen’s Medical Center. The man remains in critical condition.
A supervisor with the Department of Emergency Medical Services reported that as the rented Harley-Davidson motorcycle approached the Crouching Lion area, it hit a guardrail near 51-0666 Kamehameha Highway.
The rental company and the Visitor Aloha Society of Hawaii were contacted to help identify the victims and comfort next of kin, police said.
Jessica Lani Rich, VASH’s president and chief executive officer, said the couple was honeymooning here and had brought family with them.
About three hours later, police opened the northbound lanes on Kamehameha Highway that had been closed due to the crash, police announced.
