Mental health group plans fundraising walk
A mental health education and advocacy group plans to hold a three kilometer — or 1.86 mile — walk in Honolulu to raise money and awareness of mental health disorders.
The 4th annual National Alliance on Mental Illness walk is scheduled to be held on Oct. 1.
There is no registration fee, but participants are encouraged to raise funds in support of the organization’s family and community education groups. Similar fundraising efforts are being held in more than 83 communities around the country.
The walk also kicks off National Mental Illness Awareness Week, held each year for the past two decades during the first week in October.
Nationally, one in four families has or will have members affected by a mental disorder.
