Suspect in fatal hit-and-run turns himself in
The 33-year-old man wanted in connection with a fatal hit-and-run Saturday night turned himself into police Tuesday night.
Traffic investigators said the man turned himself in at 9:30 p.m. at the main police station on Beretania Street, where he was arrested for accidental death and third degree negligent homicide. He was still in custody this morning.
Investigators said charges are pending.
Police said Micah Borengasser and the suspect, who is believed to be the driver of a Jeep Cherokee, got into a fight on Keolu Drive in Enchanted Lake about 9:40 p.m. Saturday. The driver of the Jeep Cherokee drove off, apparently to avoid further confrontation, and ran over Borengasser, who had fallen to the ground, police said. The driver fled the scene.
Borengasser, a 2009 Kalaheo High School graduate, was taken to Castle Medical Center where he died.
Police found the Jeep Cherokee on Oneawa Street in Kailua Sunday afternoon, but the 33-year-old driver remained at large.
