Hawaii-Hilo trips NDNU in hoops
Kirsten Shimizu scored 10 points to lead Hawaii-Hilo to a 51-45 women’s basketball win over Notre Dame de Namur in Hilo on Sunday.
Hotia Vaaimamao pulled down nine rebounds for the Vulcans (9-11, 6-6 Pacific West Conference).
Trisha Malaspina led the Argonauts with 16 points.
HPU sweeps Chaminade in softball
Keila Eldert and Chante Tesoro had two hits each and Chanelle Senas drove in two runs to give Hawaii Pacific a 9-1 softball victory for a doubleheader sweep of Chaminade on Sunday at Central Oahu Regional Park.
Winning pitcher Melissa Kirby and reliever Samantha Haralson limited the Silverswords to four hits.
In the first game, Breanne Patton had three hits and two RBIs to lead the Sea Warriors (3-0) to an 11-1 win. Patton also earned the win, combining with reliever Brittany Fenumiai on a five-hitter.
Letisha Vaba had two hits for Chaminade (1-4) in the second game.
Hawaii Pacific sweeps UHH in baseball
Cory Yuh hurled a complete-game, seven-inning two-hitter to lead Hawaii Pacific to a 3-1 victory and a baseball doubleheader sweep of Hawaii-Hilo on Sunday at Hans L’Orange Park.
Russell Doi and Justin Winters led the way at the plate for the Sea Warriors (4-0) with two hits each.
In the first game, Derek Nakasato, Rylan Morihara, Easton Torigoe, Kale Sumner and Max Newman all had two hits for Hawaii Pacific in a 9-8 win.
Larry Valdes went 4-for-4 in the second game for the Vulcans (0-4).
Keenan wins shot put at Husky Classic
Hawaii’s TeRina Keenan captured the shot put competition at the Husky Classic indoor track meet in Seattle on Sunday. Keenan’s throw was 49 feet, 5.5 inches.
UH’s Madara Apine took fourth in the triple jump (40 feet, 5.5 inches).
Cal State Los Angeles tops Chaminade tennis
Cal State Los Angeles beat Chaminade 7-2 in tennis on Sunday in Phoenix.
Yuka Kondo and Shayla Hosaka of the Silverswords (4-2) picked up singles wins. The Golden Eagles improved to 3-2.
