Earth Wind & Fire plans isle concert
Soul legend Earth Wind & Fire will be making a Hawaii stopover as part of the group’s 40th anniversary tour, with an Oct. 6 concert at the Blaisdell Arena.
Featuring original members Verdine White, Philip Bailey and Ralph Johnson, EW&F has put together a memorable run of hits over the decades, including "Shining Star," "That’s the Way of the World," "September," and the Bailey-powered ballad "Reasons." The band will release a new album, "The Phoenix," on Sept. 21.
Tickets, $55, $65, $70, and $85, are available at the Blaisdell Center box office, Ticketmaster outlets at Walmarts statewide and Sports Gear Warehouse at Windward Mall, charge-by-phone at 800-745-3000, and online at ticketmaster.com.
Waikiki show seeks singers and dancers
The new Legends in Concert show at Waikiki will be holding auditions for dancers and female singers from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Thursday at the Royal Hawaiian Center.
The new show in the center’s Royal Hawaiian Theater will open Dec. 8, with rehearsals starting around Nov. 25.
Producers say they are looking for male and female dancers with "strong, versatile techniques in all types of dance, ranging from hula to hip-hop." Also needed are female singers with dancing skills. Singers should bring a CD for their vocal audition, with pop, R&B and rock music preferred. Dance attire is required (no baggy clothing, the producers advise), and performers should be in stage makeup and hair.
