H-3 freeway reopens after critical motorcycle crash
Honolulu police have reopened all Windward-bound lanes of H-3 freeway following a crash that left a motorcyclist in critical condition earlier today.
Police said a man, 21, was riding a 2011 Kawasaki Ninja about 12:07 p.m. when he lost control at a bend and crashed into the left shoulder about a quarter mile east of the Mokapu-Saddle offramp. Speeding appears to have been a factor in the crash, police said.
The man was taken to the Queen’s Medical Center in stable condition after sustaining a fractured skull, bruised ribs and cuts to his face, but was later downgraded to critical, police said. He was wearing a helmet, police said.
The crash shut down all lanes of H-3 Kailua-bound between the Kamehameha Highway and Mokapu offramps for several hours as officers investigated the scene.
