First Hawaiian Bank plans to build a new Aina Haina Shopping Center branch in the site previously occupied by the state’s first McDonald’s restaurant.
The existing branch in the Aina Haina Shopping Center will remain open until the new branch is completed. Construction is scheduled to begin upon permit approval.
First Hawaiian will lease the 25,000-square foot parcel from 820-850 Hind Drive LLC. Terms of the lease were not disclosed.
"Banking is all about convenience, and we are pleased to secure this lease to construct a new, larger branch to offer the latest financial products and services to the East Honolulu community," First Hawaiian CEO Bob Harrison said Monday.
McDonald’s built a new restaurant next door to the old Aina Haina McDonald’s and has moved into the new location.
First Hawaiian has 58 branches in Hawaii.
"This new branch underscores (First Hawaiian’s) commitment to the community, will be a fine addition to the Aina Haina Shopping Center and provide added convenience for center patrons," said Marvin Lotz, president of 820-850 Hind Drive LLC.
First Hawaiian plans to open another branch later this year on Oahu in a location that has not been announced.
