Chilean training ship visits Pearl Harbor

A Chilean navy training ship is making a port visit to Pearl Harbor.

The U.S. Navy said the B.E. Esmeralda arrived at Joint Base Pearl Harbor-Hickam today.

The guided-missile cruiser USS Chosin is to be the host ship for the crew of 334 sailors.

During the port visit, the Esmeralda crew is expected to tour sites around Pearl Harbor and compete in a soccer match with crew members from Chosin.

This is the 56th training course for the 58-year-old Esmeralda. The ship serves as a training vessel for recently graduated naval officers and crew members. It’s currently the second tallest and longest sailing ship in the world.

It last visited Pearl Harbor in 2007.
