Kahuku High School football coach Reggie Torres was reinstated today after serving a 33-day suspension for not telling the principal that a junior varsity player had brought an illegal substance to a preseason football camp on campus.

Torres, the longtime Kahuku wrestling and judo coach, met with Principal Donna Lindsey Monday, and Torres wrote a letter to players and parents that was to be distributed by interim coach Walter Santiago this afternoon. Torres is expected to be back on the field Wednesday. 

He continued to work on campus but was barred from the football field during the suspension.  

Torres was suspended indefinitely on July 29 because he did not inform Lindsey that one of the JV players had brought an illegal substance to the camp. Instead, JV coach Ikaika Plunkett disciplined the entire team after the substance was discovered, ordering players to run for 90 minutes after midnight, sources told the Star-Advertiser.

"Once we knew what happened, we should’ve reported it," Torres said. "I should’ve still advised the administrators about that. I want to apologize for all this situation. I’m responsible for this program, whatever happens, it’s on my shoulders. I’m thankful for the opportunity to spend time with the boys on their journey. Every season is a new journey."
