BRIEFS
Under Armour protects PIAA’s house
Sporting gear manufacturer Under Armour gave the Pacific Island Athletic Alliance an early Christmas gift.
Under Armour recently sent PIAA a three-year contract to provide gear for the nonprofit organization’s annual football combine.
"They will provide compression shirts for the participants and other clothing items. They will also outfit all the coaching staff and volunteers at the combine, the AFCA conference, and they’ll sponsor our national letter of intent press conference," Doris Sullivan of PIAA said. "If we have a coaching clinic, they’ll sponsor that, as well."
Sullivan added that PIAA, which assists student-athletes in reaching college coaches at no charge, will still need to raise $25,000 to cover operating costs for the academic year.
Center at heart of Mules’ kick game
Leilehua center Tim Momiyama can blend in at the line of scrimmage.
However, as the Mules’ place-kicker, the senior has stood out from his peers. In two games, he has sent eight of nine regular kickoffs at least 5 yards deep into the end zone for touchbacks.
Red Raiders No. 1 and having fun
Kahuku (2-0) returned to the No. 1 spot in the Star-Advertiser Football Top 10 last week and proved itself worthy with a 13-3 win over Kamehameha on Friday.
Running back Aofaga Wily made his first appearance of the season after sitting out the previous game against Waianae with a leg injury. He finished with 81 yards on 21 carries in the Red Raiders’ no-huddle attack.
"I feel good. It keeps us moving the ball and keeps the defense on their feet. We just gotta work on it more," the junior said. "We’ve been running it every week and keep pushing, working hard."
Kahuku is at Kailua for its OIA opener Friday.
