Motorist dies as second vehicle flips in a single day
One person was killed and five others seriously injured today in separate traffic incidents, both involving overturned vehicles.
Around 7:40 p.m., two vehicles collided in the eastbound lanes of the H-1 freeway near the Kalaeloa offramp, causing one of the vehicles to overturn.
Honolulu Fire Department rescue personnel were called to the scene to assist with the extrication of one person from the overturned vehicle. The victim, whose identity was not released, died a the scene.
Emergency Medical Services personnel transported a woman, believed to be in her 20s, and a man to a local trauma center, both in serious condition.
Paramedics were told that the car was struck from behind and spun out.

Earlier, a car carrying two adults and a child slammed into a stalled vehicle on the H-2 freeway, resulting in a massive traffic disruption. The incident was reported at 1:35 p.m.
Police closed all southbound lanes near Mililani for about two hours while debris was cleared and an initial investigation conducted.
The occupants of the moving vehicle, which flipped over, were identified by paramedics as a 30-year-old woman, 31-year-old man and 9-year-old boy who was in a booster seat in the back seat.
No other injuries were reported.
All three occupants of the vehicle that flipped over were taken to the Queen’s Medical Center in serious condition.
The accidents were the second and third of the weekend to involve overturned vehicles.
On Saturday, a 56-ear-old Ewa man suffered massive head and internal injuries when the Mustang he was driving veered off the H-1 freeway into a dirt embankment and overturned.
The incident happened at 2:11 p.m. about one mile west of the Kunia offramp.
Traffic investigators said the car was traveling eastbound at a high rate of speed.
